Creating a template (master copy)

Creating a template within assemblies adopts the same process as for a single item template.

Use the   new works order button to open the new works order window.

Enter all the relevant information using the spy glass to retrieve the customer and part detail.  If the part is not in the parts database, enter all the detail for the part then using the large + next to the part record this will open the new part window to add to the parts database. Please note: the part record will require updating with costs etc.

When creating a template the order and build quantity must be a value of 1, remember this is being used as a master copy.  No delivery date and customer reference are to be included.  Tick the Template box and Assembly if this part is the top level of the assembly.

Continue creating a template for each component that needs to be manufactured.  To complete each template all labour, material, part and subcon detail needs to be populated.

When all components have templates, it is now possible to construct the assembly.

Assembly Components

Using the more traditional method of assembly construction, i.e. that of V7 and older.  Open the Assembly Components sub tab on the top level of the assembly.  Using the + button the picking list for all templates relating to this customer will be displayed.  Multiple selection can be carried out to input all the manufactured components into the table.  The quantity against each component needs to be the ratio of requirement to manufacture the top level e.g. 2 x component A for top level of 1.

Explorer

Using the new Explorer popout window enables users to get better visibility of the construction of the assembly.

Use the Explorer button next to the Works Order field to open the explorer window.

The structure of an assembly will be displayed including the bought in parts relevant to each level.  Initially, bought in parts may not display, use the double chevron to open menu options.  Tick all boxes and Apply to save.

Assembly Menu

By right clicking on the top level of the assembly or at the necessary level as required, a pop up window will appear with further options.

Change W/O Assy Qty – changes the works order quantity, initially an advisory window will appear confirming the acceptance of the changes to quantities, costs and times.

Change the order and build quantities.

Add Component – adds a new component to the level selected.  The picking list will display all related templates.

Create New Component – creates a new component, this can be an existing part with a template associated or a completely new component, to be created from scratch.

Explode – this option can change the display within the explorer window, Single Level will only display the detail for the level selected, All Levels displays the complete assembly

Where Used – lists occurrences of the same template in other assemblies

Expand – expands a collapsed assembly structure

Collapse – collapses an expanded assembly structure

Print – prints the whole structure of the displayed assembly

Creating a Works Order Template using Explorer

Create the top level as a normal template using the + as per all new works orders, if the part is not in the parts database this can be added using the black cross next to the part number field.  Please note: this is a shortcut, therefore will only record the fields as displayed.

A template used for assemblies has a quantity of 1 in both order and build fields.

Tick both Template and Assembly.  Select OK to save the record.  The works order window will open, where all the construction including labour, materials, parts and subcon relating to this part can be entered.

Adding sub levels

Open the Explorer.  To add a sub level right click on the relevant level, select Create New Component from the menu.

Insert all the detail, if the part is not in the part database it can be added using the + button adjacent to the part number field.  If the part has a linked template this will be displayed within the new quotation window.  Select the Use Template tick box to acknowledge the use of a listed template. Enter quantity of 1, the template tick box will be greyed out but the tick will acknowledge that it is a template.

Bought in parts on the works order template will appear underneath the sub assembly assuming the double chevron has been selected and all the boxes have been ticked.

Parts Sourcing

Bought in Parts

Bought in parts can be sourced for order using the Actions button, selected Source – Source Bought Parts.  When selected the Purchase Order Assistant will open with the bought in requirement ready for order.

Source Manufactured Parts

Common components manufactured for stock can be sourced against an assembly using the sourcing facility in the Actions menu.

Use Works Order Assistant to identify those common components required to fulfil other works orders.

Exploding the Assembly

The exploding of the assembly has the same process for quotation and works order.

Create a new works order using the big +.

Use the search button adjacent to the part number field to open the part picking list, if the part has been created as a template, a box will appear under the part number record.

If more than one template has been created this will be indicated next to the double chevron.  Use the double chevron to expand the template list, highlight the template required.  To define the difference between different templates, use the Method field within the works order.

Enter the order and build quantity, the Assembly and Explode tick boxes will be ticked, selecting OK will create the assembly.
