The Tricorn dashboard is unavailable or the dashboard icon is greyed out

If the dashboard icon is greyed out, or Tricorn tells you the dashboard is not available, this is normally a licensing limit rather than a fault or a permissions problem.

Why it happens

Dashboard access is licensed separately, for a set number of concurrent users. When that limit is reached, the next person to try will find the dashboard unavailable, even if they have always had access before.

A dashboard licence is generally held for as long as a user has the dashboard open, whether or not they are actively using it. That means a colleague who is not currently looking at the dashboard may still be holding a licence.

How to free a dashboard licence

  1. Ask any colleagues who have the dashboard open but are not using it to close Tricorn.
  2. Ask the user who needs the dashboard to restart Tricorn. The dashboard should now be available to them.
  3. Colleagues can then start Tricorn again as normal.

Can I see who is holding a dashboard licence?

There is no view that lists which users currently hold a dashboard licence. In practice the quickest approach is the one above: ask colleagues to close Tricorn briefly while the user who needs the dashboard restarts. That is normally enough to release one.

If the dashboard is still unavailable

If you have asked colleagues to close Tricorn and the dashboard remains unavailable, a licence may be held by a session that has not been released properly. We can clear that for you. Please contact support and let us know how many dashboard licences you hold and which user is affected.

If you reach the limit regularly, we can also provide a quotation for an additional dashboard user.
