Freeing a DNA licence when a user is still shown as signed in

Modified on Tue, 11 Aug at 10:33 AM

If DNA or AeroDNA will not let you log on because your licences are all in use, this article explains why it happens and how to clear it yourself.

Why it happens

Your site has a set number of concurrent DNA licences. If you have five licences and five users are shown as signed in, the next person cannot log on until one of those sign-ins is released.

A sign-in is not always released when someone finishes work. The two most common causes are:

  • The machine was shut down without signing out of DNA first.
  • DNA stopped responding and was closed through Task Manager. The user is then still shown as signed in.

Clearing a sign-in yourself

Your administrator can release these sign-ins without contacting us:

  1. In DNA, go to Data, then My settings, then Who is online.
  2. Look first for a sign-in under your own name. If you have signed in from a second machine, such as a home computer, signing out there will free a licence without affecting anyone else.
  3. If you do need to remove someone else's sign-in, check that they are not currently working. Removing a live sign-in can disconnect a colleague and lose unsaved changes.
  4. Remove the sign-ins that are genuinely no longer in use.

If every sign-in is genuinely in use

If the list shows only people who are actively working, you have reached your licensed capacity rather than encountered a stuck sign-in. Contact us and we can provide a quotation for additional licences.

Still unable to log on?

If you have cleared the unused sign-ins and still cannot log on, please contact support and let us know how many licences you hold and which users are shown in the list.
