A button, tab or option has disappeared for one Tricorn user

Modified on Tue, 11 Aug at 10:33 AM

If one user has lost a button, tab or option in Tricorn while colleagues can still see it, this is often caused by a single permission. It is worth checking even when the user's other permissions all appear to be enabled.

Typical symptoms

  • An option such as copying items from a works order is no longer available.
  • A tab, for example the costs tab on a works order, is no longer shown.
  • The same screen works normally for other users.

The permission to check

Tricorn has a permission called restricted view. When it is enabled it reduces what the user can see, rather than granting anything. This is worth stating plainly, because it runs against what the name suggests: switching the permission on is what removes the user's access.

It also means that checking whether the user's permissions are all ticked will not identify the problem. A user can have everything else enabled and still lose access because restricted view is switched on.

Before you change anything

Check with whoever manages your Tricorn permissions whether the restriction was applied deliberately. Restricted access is sometimes set intentionally, for example to keep cost information away from particular roles. If it was set on purpose, please leave it in place.

How to resolve it

  1. Open the affected user's permission settings.
  2. Locate the restricted view permission.
  3. Disable it for that user.
  4. Ask the user to check the screen again.

Unless you specifically intend to limit what someone can see, this permission should remain disabled.

If the option is still missing

If disabling the permission does not restore the missing option, please contact support and tell us the user's name and exactly which button, tab or screen is affected.
